MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
I’m sure we’re all counting down the days until we gather with family and friends, feast on homecooked meals, and exchange loving gifts—or maybe you’re still stressed about cooking that meal and finding the perfect presents. People across the world will celebrate dozens of holidays this month, so wherever you are in the planning stages, just remember: there’s always someone further behind schedule than you!
We can feel a lot of pressure around the holidays, but I invite you all to relax and reflect on the good we’ve done this year, everything we’ve accomplished.
All year, our clients and staff have been doing acts of good on personal and community-wide levels. In Council Bluffs, a group of LINKS members learned sign language to better communicate with a hearing-impaired friend; the Atlantic clients arranged a collection drive for the food pantry and animal shelter, gathering donations from staff and clients alike; Cherokee staff helped a client overcome a fear of flying so she could attend a family member’s funeral; Missouri Valley clients ran the kiddie games at a summer celebration.
Crossroads served 600 clients this year; we helped 62 people find jobs; we welcomed more people into LINKS; we gave more clients a place to call home. We hosted lunches and fundraisers for community members, volunteered with local organizations, and performed acts of good in our communities. In building a philanthropy department, a grant program, a training and development plan, and behavioral health services offerings, we welcomed new staff into our fold.
Just last month we acquired two new companies, turning Crossroads into a national provider and more than tripling the clients we reach. [You can watch our video about the acquisition here, if you're interested.] It gives us the opportunity to open new service lines and do more good in our communities to better meet the vital needs.
It’s important that we’re always looking forward, striving to do more and be better, but looking back is a great way to remind ourselves why we commit to this work. Our work improves people’s lives and we should feel good about that.
We are grateful for your engagement and support of our life-changing mission. Now, if that doesn’t inspire you to go out and finish all your holiday preparations, I don’t know what will!
